I’ve always liked the Mexican style — “Mexican Pulps.” Although, in the usual sense, it isn’t dark art. We can always find, among crimes and the Old West, pieces that are more in line with our own style. It must be that I’m drawn to those exuberant women, the scenes of cruelty, the duels, the deceptions.
We could highlight the great use of color in these illustrations.
Some will say it’s somewhat sexist. Maybe it is — because of the women’s perfect bodies, because of the many scenes of abuse against women. But as I always say, we can’t get stuck in linear art. Anything that breaks a bit from established norms is welcome.
We have artists such as Jose Silva, Ivan Santillan Cardenas, Guillermo Peimbert Chavez, Effren, Dinorin, and Antonio Santillan.
